A floating floor is a floor covering such as laminate, timber, bamboo or even cork that is placed over an existing sub floor. It is not glued or nailed to the subfloor hence the term “floating” floor. In between this flooring and the subfloor an underlay is placed which should have a built in moisture barrier. A floating floor should be laid with an expansion gap around the perimeter to allow for expansion and contraction.

Laminate flooring is type of flooring made of a laminate material. Laminate flooring is made to look like natural products such as solid timber flooring. Laminate can be installed over most sub floors such as timber, concrete, and even tiles. Laminate is a cheaper option when looking at floor coverings and is also very durable and sustainable.

Laminate flooring was developed around 20 years ago in Europe as an alternative to solid timber floors. As for solid floors can be sanded and polished many times laminate flooring can not be sanded but has a much harder wear surface than any natural product. Some laminates also have up to a 25 year wear warranty.

Laminate flooring has a dense inner core and a glued-on layer or fused layers of outer material. A popular alternative to other hard surface products, high-quality laminate flooring resists staining, wear and fading much better than wood and natural stone while providing unique looks and appeal. It is durable with some being about 20 times stronger than a kitchen countertop and is scratch resistant.

Laminate floors are considered to be very low-maintenance when compared to wood floors. Unlike natural wood, laminate floors do not require waxing, oiling or staining. It is important to keep laminate clean, as dust, dirt and sand particles may scratch the decorative surface over time in high-traffic areas. It is also important to keep laminate relatively dry, since sitting water/moisture can cause the planks to swell, warp, etc. Water spills aren't a problem if they're wiped up quickly, and not allowed to sit for a prolonged period of time.

Adhesive felt pads are often placed on the feet of furniture on laminate floors to prevent scratching. Newcastle Floating Floors supply timber and laminate cleaner at competitive prices.

Bamboo is becoming one of the most popular coverings today, for the simple reasons it is Eco friendly and is harder and more durable than any other timber on the market.

As we all know bamboo grows rapidly, with some species growing up to 120cm in 24 hours bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world. The same plant can be harvested about every 3-5 years compared to hardwood that can take decades to mature, some up to 80 years.

Bamboo was overlooked in Australia until quite recently but is now one of most sought after products because of its great benefits.

Bamboo flooring can either be floated or glued to the existing sub floor.

Timber floating floor is a great option when considering a new floor with our timber floor coming prefinished with a hard wearing finish so there is no sanding and polishing needed after installation you can enjoy your new floors as soon as its laid.

Engineered timber floors have a “real” top layer in many different species, glued on top of a pine core board with some boards being glueless.
